Hawkins County: Established 1886; named in honor of Benjamin Hawkins. Member of Continental Congress from North Carolina. US Senator from North Carolina, 1789-95. Signed Deed of Cession, conveying Southwest Territory (with is now the State of Tennesee) to the Federal Government.

Hamblen County: Established 1870: named in honor of Hezekiah Hamblen of Hawkins County.
