Famous bridge southwest of Lexington, Ky. Started in 1850, its completion was delayed by the Civil War until 1877. Land was provided to the railroad by the nearby Shaker colony. They had operated the nearby landing on the river. Value of the landing was diminished by the railroad. Once the highest bridge in the world over a navigable river. Rebuilt in 1911 without interrupting daily rail traffic. Still in daily use. The coordinates are for a small park with an observation platform with a grand view of the bridge and river and a small museum. Be sure to see the nearby Shaker Village, landing and lock.

See the following, which has a number of old post card images.
