Carl Strandlund, inventor of the porcelain-enameled steel Lustron home. The Lustron Corporation in Columbus, Ohio produced almost 2,500 of these solid steel homes between 1949 and 1950 before declaring bankruptcy. The ranch style homes usually had two or three bedrooms. Some even had garages. The majority of the 2498 Lustron homes built are still standing today.
