Beside the A3082 a short distance outside Fowey, this repositioned 9 foot high standing stone is mounted on a millstone base. An early Christian "T" shaped cross is carved on the back of the stone. On the front is an inscription running down the stone: 'Drustanus Hic Iacit Cunomori Filius' (Drustanus lies here, son of Cunomorus). Drustanus is a Latinized form of the name Tristan or Tristram, while Cunomorus was also known a Mark, a Cornish Celtic King from the 5th or 6th century. The names have led to suggestions of a connection with the tragic legend of Tristan & Iseult.
Sadly, the first name on the inscription is now almost totally worn away. The stone was originally located a few hundred metres away at the "Four Turnings" crossroads.
