Fuller Field in Clinton, MA, is documented by the Guiness Book of World Records as the "Oldest Baseball Field in Continuous Use".
This field is located in the town of Clinton, a community of about 13,000 people far from large metropolitan areas, such as Boston, and at least 30 miles away from venerable Fenway Park, the current oldest MLB baseball stadium.
The claim is based on maps of the town that date as far back as 1878, and box scores from games played every year. At least one future Hall of Famer, Tim Keefe, played on the field.
Today, the field exists as a multipurpose field. One entrance is like a gateway to professional fields, complete with ticket booths. One difference is that you will also be greeted by a white lion sculpture (others are by the field house). To the right are the bleacher seats and a sign that proclaims that the field is the oldest in continuous use "as documented by the World Book of Guiness."
There is controversy over this claim. Friends of Labatt Park in London, Ontario, have made the claim that their field was around in 1877, and that there diamond was moved only after a flood happened. Currently, Fuller Field holds the record. Will London, Ontario upset them? Stay tuned, make your visits and decide for yourself!
