There are two small sandy beaches at the foot of Lover's Point which are protected from most of the ocean swell. The beaches are reached by wide stairs from public parking just above, where there are also restrooms/changing rooms. Divers enter from the eastern side of the beach, and quickly reach an area of undersea rocks with eel grass and all kinds of invertebrate life. A little further out are the giant kelp beds.
Note: there are special restrictions on diving at Lover's Point during summer weekends; from May 1 through September 30 all diving activity is prohibited between 11:30AM and sunset. However, diving from the west side of the point, not at the sandy beach, is unrestricted year round.
Note: Spearfishing is prohibited, and no invertebrate may be taken in water 60 feet or less. Offshore buoy marks the 60 foot contour line.
