I read that Rentz Prison was the old Renz Farm started out as a male prison. In 1975 it was made COED, I tried researching the prison and couldn't find a lot of information. I suspect it was closed after the flood of 93. You can see the prison from the road and need to seek permission to enter.
The old Renz Prison Farm # 2 is where prisoner #416J made good his escape from the Missouri State Prison in a metal box delivering freshly made bread delivered by truck to the prison farm across the Missouri River from MSP.
The man's name was James Earl Ray and a new book by Hampton Sides tells Ray's story and the international manhunt that followed him after later he would become the assassin of Martin Luther King Jr.in 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. (thanks to Carpe Diem59 for this bit of history)
