This older mural is fading a little. All the figures are in vigorous action, exploring, commanding, hunting, plowing. They don't look arranged for artistic effect; they are painted strictly to advance the historical narrative of the mural.
The left side is almost a separate mural. It had to fit under the existing windows of the building. It depicts a fantasy of Robert Louis Stevenson and John Steinbeck sitting on a bench getting their portraits painted.
