Long Description:
A square granite column is the centerpiece of this memorial. The column is flanked by two polished freestanding granite walls containing the names of the 980 South Carolinians who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. The names are listed by county of residence and date of death or date they became MIA. The names of MIA's are denoted by a star that precedes their name. The column has scenes reminiscent of the war etched into the surface.

The map of South Vietnam with the Corps areas depicted is set into the plaza that is in front of the memorial.

Inscription:

IN MEMORY OF THE SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF SOUTH CAROLINA WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY IN VIETNAM.

On the back of the two walls are several scriptures including JOHN 15:12-13:

THIS IS MY COMMANDMENT, THAT YE LOVE ONE ANOTHER, AS I HAVE LOVED YOU.
GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS,THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS.



2nd Lieutenant Elizabeth Ann Jones from Allendale, South Carolina, was one of the eight military women who lost their lives in the Vietnam War. Her name is on this memorial and on the Wall in Washington DC. Requiescat In Pace Elizabeth - For as long as your name is remembered so too are you. Thank you for serving for us and your country.
