This Tudor-style building was raised during the heyday of Watsonville's success as a civic center for the agricultural surrounding county. The mission of the Woman's Club was education and self-improvement for women, in the context of an era when women did not have the right to vote in the US.
Since then, time, population changes, and poverty have not been kind to downtown Watsonville. Fortunately, many of the old buildings were never torn down for newer commercial enterprises. The Woman's Club no longer has a chartered group in Watsonville (they moved to nearby Corralitos), but the hall is used by other nonprofit groups for meetings and lectures, and is available to rent for social occasions.
