The original sepia photograph was taken, looking to the south, from a second floor window of the Old Village Church School (WM4BBE) and shows the Minister dedicating the War Memorial to those who lost their lives in the 1914-18 WWI and lived the villages of Dunchurch and Thurlaston.

The tree in the centre has now been replaced with much younger trees but the public house still exists and is still called The Green Man. The reference to Phipps Ales shows the connection with a wellknown Northamptonshire Brewer. The property on the extreme left is Guy Fawkes House that was a hiding place for the Gunpowder Plotters and it is believed to house an underground tunnel to the nearby church.
The style of dress for that period is well shown and also horse and motor transport. Behind the crowd to the right is the village Police Constable.

The roadway running across behind the crowd is the A45 which is now bypassed to the south by the M45.

Somewhere in the assembled crowd is my late father aged about 15 years.

The current photograph is taken from roughly the same position but from ground level.
Year photo was taken: 1919
