The church is the original meeting place where John Bunyan converted a barn into a place of meeting. The bronze door depicts scenes from the Pilgrims progress in ten panels. They are amazingly detailed.
The door is housed in a grand entrance porch and small front garden off the main road in Bedford town centre.
The Bedford Council describes the doors:
'The bronze doors at the entrance to the church, which are considered to be of outstanding artistic merit, are the work of the sculptor, Frederick Thrupp, and were presented to Bunyan Meeting by Hastings, Duke of Bedford in 1876. The doors' ten panels depict scenes from The Pilgrim's Progress and, starting from the bottom left-hand corner, can be read from left to right.'
