St John's was founded in 1847 and has served the people of Newport area since then. The church has had some upgrades including strengthening the foundation where the original cornerstone was covered over with cement and the dates imprinted in the new covering. They welcome people of all faiths to come worship with them. As part of their agenda they offer help for grieving families and individuals, Sunday school, study groups and they help with outreach ministries.

They have 2 main Sunday masses, 9 am and 10:45 am. The church also broadcasts their services on television, cable channel 17. The program is called St. John's Worship Television. They broadcast at the following times

Sunday 4:30 p.m.
