Nessmuk Lake was constructed after the floods of Hurricane Agnes in 1972, and was named after George Washington Sears. Sears was a famouse writer and outdoorsman from Wellsboro, who took on the pen name Nessmuk. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania owns this 60 acre lake and the Fish and Boat Commission manages it. This is a great place for fishing (with a boat or without), birdwatching, and picnicking. The area has a wheelchair accessable fishing platform, restrooms, drinking fountains, benches, and pavillions.

The Fish and Boat Commission require that electric powered boats be registered and have a launch permit, and non powered boats have a launch permit. Sorry no internal combustion engines. Permits are $10 a year and are available at the DCNR office at the park entrance (these are accepted at most state boating facilities).
