I was traveling the river roads in this area, down from Saline County, trying to find Lewis & Clark markers. I actually found a few, but found many more chips of history, much more intriguing. As an example, I found a very small stone in a small, almost deserted cemetery, that explained the Cherokee Rose. The white wild rose. It seems to grow only on the old Trail of Tears, and Cherokee legend states that one rose grows for each tear that hit the ground.
