The Roman Catholic church of St Mary opened for worship in 1867.
Designed by E.W.Pugin and is of a Gothic revival style of architecture
The church was built at a cost of £6000 and is of a red sandstone construction with a nave of 75 feet in length,North and South aisles,a chancel and a massive tower of 75 feet.
The imposing building stands in a prominent position near the town centre of Barrow in Furness.
The steeple was a later addition to the church in 1888.
