One of Belvidere's many large trees, there is a local bit of history surrounding the "Shoe Tree":
Barefoot country folk would sit under this tree to put on their shoes before going to worship across the village green.
Some years back when Oxford Street was widened, it was decided to cut down the white oak. A great outcry arose and the tree was saved for posterity. The white oak is about 350 years old and about 15 feet in circumference.
