There are almost two hundred roses of many different kinds in this immaculate rose garden. Central Park was acquired by the city of San Mateo in 1922. The San Mateo Arboretum Society, founded by Marion Panaretos in 1975, takes care of the rose garden and some of the other plantings in the park. The volunteers also sponsor classes and plant clinics.
The open gazebo in the center of the rose garden is a perfect spot for a wedding.
