This church built in 1920 has served as a center of religious life in the historical African-American neighborhood called "The Ville" during the heyday of black culture in this section of the city. This building was the third building for this church which started in 1879. This church was one of the first institutions in St. Louis to start Head Start preschool programs. The church continues as a center of religious life in the community.
