From their website: The Winterset Fire Department was established in 1872. Fire Chief Richard Truckenbrod and 21 Volunteer Firefighters, 9 of which are Nationally Certified Firefighter II and 7 that are Nationally Certified Firefighter I provide fire protection for our community.
The Fire Department protects an area of 235 square miles including 9 townships and the cities of Winterset, Bevington and Patterson, with a total population of 9,000 people. They respond to an averageof 130 calls per year with 3 Pumper-Tankers, 1 Tanker, 1 Attack/Command Vehicle and 2 Brush/Grass Trucks.
The rescue calls are handled by the Madison County Ambulance Service with the assistance of Winterset Fire Department. They carry the Jaws-of-Life Rescue Equipment and Air Bags.
