In 1998, local artist and school teacher, Cameron Cross had a vision. He would create a landmark that would combine Altona's reputation of the Sunflower Capital of Canada with it's deep artistic roots. With the assistance of the Altona and District Chamber of Commerce, this vision was realized. This was accomplished by engineering and constructing a 76'6" high, 27,000 lb, three legged easel. Then, 24 sheets of 3/4" plywood were laminated together to form the "canvas". The talent of the artist, combined with 17 gallons of paint completed the vision. This wonder must be seen to be believed. More Info
