Nelson, British Columbia
The Nelson Cenotaph War Memorial was constructed in 1922 in memory of local servicemen who lost their lives in World War I. At a later date the Cenotaph was dedicated to include tributes to the local servicemen who lost their lives in World War II.
Originally the Cenotaph was placed near the North East end of Vernon Street Boulevard on the 400 block of Vernon Street. In the early 1980's the Cenotaph was moved to the British Columbia Government Office Building courtyard on War Street.
As a salute to those whose lives were lost in the Wars, the Nelson Pilots Association on each November 11th, honor the occasion with a fly past. Several aircraft and helicopters fly in loose formation over the Cenotaph as the ceremony on the ground is ending.
