St. James is a cornerstone to the Episcopal community north of the Peace River in Charlotte County. Its New Beginnings Park contains an elaborate outdoor altar with pews.

The New Beginnings Park was in part paid by a 20/20 grant provided by the Southwest Florida Diocese. The rest of it was paid by generous and continuous congregation member donations. New Beginnings Park is located on St. James Episcopal Church property and is open to everyone who wishes to visit.
A large gazebo provides shade and a view of an area designated for an outdoor altar that's ready for service. A cross stands in the chancel area behind a marble altar that faces rows of wooden pews placed to handle a reasonable attendance of people.
The landscaping provides a feeling of privacy to the altar in a very urban, residential area of Port Charlotte.
