Napoleon’s first library was formed in 1906 by ladies of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. Their subscription library was first housed in the Clay home on Woodlawn Avenue. It moved from place to place until the Village Council bought the Clay home and petitioned Andrew Carnegie for a grant to build a permanent library there.

Om 1912, the grant was secured, and the library was built by local contractor G. F. Tuttle. It was dedicated in 1913 and served as Napoleon’s library until 1965. When the new library opened next door, the old library became a storage facility for books and periodicals. The red brick building appears to be in good shape.
