"The Modesto Arch was built in 1912 and the slogan was decided as the result of a contest. This slogan, "Water Wealth, Contentment, Health," is actually the second place winner. "Nobody's Got Modesto's Goat" won first place. The arch is still the symbol of Modesto, used as background for news broadcasts and instantly recognizable. This is a very early postcard of the Arch - it still has the "welcome" sign not shown in later pictures." (visit link)
