En 1988, l'absence d'un lieu de culte au cœur d'une agglomération de 80 000 habitants, décide Monseigneur Herbulot à édifier une cathédrale à Evry. La première construite en France depuis plus d'un siècle. La cathédrale d'Evry " Notre Dame de la Résurrection ", est construite en centre-ville, à côté de l'hôtel de Ville, de la Chambre de Commerce et de l'Université.
Par le biais de l'Agence Nationale pour les Arts Sacrés, le projet est confié à l'architecte Mario Botta, retenu pour sa maîtrise de la brique, matériau choisi pour le centre-ville de la ville nouvelle. La cathédrale est un double cylindre taillé en biseau de 35 m de haut et de 37 m de diamètre. 8 00 000 briques de Toulouse ont été nécessaires à sa construction. Pour la lumière, l'édifice est coiffé d'un toit composé de verrière pour capter la lumière tout le jour.
La cathédrale est également coiffée de 24 tilleuls argentés qui rappellent la couronne des ifs ceinturant les mausolées cylindriques des empereurs Auguste et Hadrien de Rome. Derrière l'autel, le vitrail moderne symbolise les racines d'un arbre et apporte une clarté supplémentaire.

In 1988, the absence of a place of worship in the heart of an agglomeration of 80 000 people, Monsignor Herbulot decides to build a cathedral at Evry. The first built in France for over a century. The cathedral in Evry "Our Lady of the Resurrection," is built in downtown, next to the hotel de Ville, the Chamber of Commerce and the University.
Through the National Agency for Sacred Arts, the project is entrusted to architect Mario Botta, chosen for his mastery of brick, a material chosen for the downtown New Town.
