History
From research done at library , All I could find out is "Built around 1858, this home was used as a hospital by Union troops during the Civil War. The home was built by Thomas Ellis and stands among a grove of beautiful oak and magnolia trees. William Shaffer bought the home in 1874 and completed the structure as it stands today on La. Hwy. 311, three miles south of Schriever. "
