This is one of Rattlesnake Point's many lookouts. This one is the farthest hike from the parking lots - you're looking at a 1.3km hike from the upper parking or 600 metres from the lower parking area.
What you see here is the Nassagaweya Canyon, a gorge formed during the last ice age when meltwaters swelled a preglacial river into a massive torrent that literally carved this section off the rest of the Niagara Escarpment. While you are here, take a look at the hills formed by the gravel deposits from this great river to the south.
The easiest approach is to park at the lower parking lot at Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area - N43 28.134 W79 55.069 (Fee Required!) and follow the Buffalo Crag trail, which has the yellow markers. There is a small platform area setup with a railing to prevent you from falling over the 80 foot cliff. The Rattlesnake Point side trail and the main Bruce Trail run through this area, so there is ample hiking and lots of other scenic views in the area.
There are benches at the lookout, and the conservation area has restrooms and picnic tables (not listed as these are a kilometer from the viewpoint)
