Marker Name: Travelers Tales: “Unofficial” Diaries
Marker Text: 2 AD: We gather huckleberries from first light until the heat of day sets in. My arms ache happily from filling baskets heavy with dark, sweet berries. Mollala women from the western valley are also here, and my cousins share many stories as we pick our fingers blue.
1862: It’s slow going over the abrasive, unsteady lava flows. As the first white men over this route, we move great rocks and logs from the wagon’s path. Broke an axle today. If we suffer nary a breakdown more, we may make Idaho gold camps in two months.
1912: What a lovely stop on day three of our Cascades holiday. Wild mountains marching into the distance take my breath away. Every bump along the road is forgotten at viewing this scenically superb endowment of nature! I hope this wind does not blow as fiercely at our camp tonight.
