In the 1980's, as the suburban sprawl from the City of Mississauga began to encroach on the 1800's era village, the residents petitioned the province to save it from the developers.

Many villages in the area were simply paved over with newer planned communities. Not Meadowvale - it became Ontario's First Heritage/Conservation district, and the developers simply went around - not over - the village.

Meadowvale Village was incorporated into the City of Mississauga in 1974 but remains as a Heritage District.
