The basement of the Federal Building and Post Office (zip 37660) in downtown Kingsport, TN is a Civil Defense Shelter. The shelter sign is located on the east entrance into the post office. The capacity figure is blank.
At one time, it was said that Kingsport, TN was on the USSR list of places to bomb due to Holston Defense munitions (RDX and C5) plant on west side of town. The current concern in this area would be more from material releases from nearby paper and chemical manufacturing operations.
