Charlotte Hospital was a known necessity that was petitioned by doctors, fundraised for by associations, and written about in the newspaper for over fifty years until the economy and location were ready to construct a proper medical facility for Charlotte County.
The first surgery performed at the hospital was a tonsillectomy performed on Gussie Peeples Baker on Monday, August 18, 1947.
Expansions to the original structure on the hospital campus have been consistent to meet the area's demands for medical care.
This hospital is a full-service facility with an Emergency Room that has a professional cooperation with the Punta Gorda Fire Department and Charlotte County Fire/EMS for Emergency Medical services.
