This bell was made in 1893 by the McShane Bell Foundry in Baltimore, MD. It was purchased by the Trion Manufacturing Company and was hung in the mills new tower on April 19th, 1893. It was used in the mornings to wake the towns many employees. It also rang the hours at night and on Sunday.

This is on the grounds of Mount Vernon Mills, you have to pass a guard shack to reach the bell. At the time of our visit it was Sunday and no guard was present. If one is there, I would suggest you stop and talk to them before proceeding.
