I have visited the butterfly gardens in Huntsville since they first had one in the late 1990's. It was in a fairly small hot house with a few butterfly bushes and other butterfly attracting plants. There was a small pond in the front that had a couple of turtles. It took all of 30 minutes to go through it as the hot sun blazing through the hot house roof made it unbearable to stay in there long. To my surprise and delight, that butterfly house no longer exists. Since the last time we were in Huntsville, they have built this butterfly nature center. The Nature Center is a beautiful, soaring 9000 sq. ft. natural stone and steel beam structure overlooking the pond.
The waterfall, ponds, streams and lush vegetation are home to thousands of native butterflies, tadpoles, frogs, tree frogs, button quail, turtles.
This one opened to the public on June 2, 2006. It has windows all around but was not hot like a sauna. We spent a couple hours here enjoying the beauty of this small retreat.
You must pay admission to the Botanical Gardens in order to enjoy the butterfly house.
