A hillside spring brought down to the roadside.

Usually, these have a warning sign, but since this is a fully wooded hillside (no pasture, no cows) they apparently don't think such a warning is necessary. The water does taste good.

As is evident, the ground around the spring can get a little muddy. There is no provision for taking the runoff away.

Hazen's Notch Road (VT Route 58) east of the Notch is the remains of the Bayley-Hazen Military Road. It is mostly dirt between Lowell and Montgomery. The midsection through the Notch is closed in winter.
