On this spot in the Upper Room
of the Old Court House
in August 1854,
Abraham Lincoln
made his first speech on
The Kansas Nebraska Question.

[The upper portion of the marker there used to be a bust of Lincoln. The mounting hole and outline of the bust are still visible, but alas, the bust is missing.]

Location Notes:
This was once the courthouse lawn. When Winchester built a new County Court House, this square became a city park. The center of the park is dominated by a larger than life statue of a seated Stephan Douglas. The Lincoln marker is on the east side of the park, near the sidewalk.
