The Church of St.Andrew has a marvelous situation on the summit of Grey Mare Hill,960 feet above sea level.

St.Andrews church is now a redundant church and is in the care of The Churches Conservation Trust,which is a charity that cares for and preserves English churches of historical,architectural or archaeological importance,that are no longer needed for regular worship,it promotes public enjoyment of them and their use as an educational and community resource.
St.Andrew's is built of local stone but has a Welsh slate roof,despite it's 19th.Century restoration it retains the cruciform shape of it's predecessor,.
The 18th Century alter table perhaps came from an earlier building,the grained pews are of 1892.
The churchyard contains many fine 18th.Century headstones,some of which are attributed to the sculptor John Graham Lough,he was baptised here in 1798 .
North East of the church in the grounds is the elaborate mausoleum built by Humphrey Hopper in 1752.it is a large square structure of rustic character .
When the church and mausoleum came into the care of The Churches Conservation Trust both were extensively repaired under the supervision of Ian Curry architect of Newcastle.
