The John J. Shipherd house was build in 1830. John J. Shipherd was a Presbyterian minister who along with Philo Stewart established the community of Oberlin, Ohio in 1833. Along with the community he founded Oberlin College. Shipherd hoped to educated the students to become missionaries for the Presbyterian Church. For more information about John J.
