According to the plaque at the site (see photo), this spring was used by a military field hospital during the Battle of Nashville in the Civil War.

Woodlawn Cemetery is a beautiful place. Even though it is near Interstate 65 on the west and adjacent to Interstate 440 on the north, this spring house is a very peaceful place. Come by and have a seat, you'll be glad you did.
