The Ludington Pumped Storage facility pulls water from Lake Michigan and lifts it up into a 1.5 x 2 mile reservoir during times of low power consumption, then releases the water for additional power generation at times of peak demand. This barrier was constructed to reduce fish losses during plant operations.
