On July 11, 1752, the Britannia Fire Co. was organized in the town of Bridgetown, ( Now know as Mount Holly) this was the beginning of the existence of the fighting unit. The only equipment at that time to put fires out were leather buckets which were kept at the homes of the firefighters. The first firehouse is still in existence and is located on the property.

The original Relief firehouse was located in St. Andrews Cemetary. When the modern firehouse was built in 1892. The original firehouse temporarily was used as a tool shed. Today it has been moved to the same property as the current firehouse.

One story frame building with gabled roof and open rafter eaves; door is board and batten construction; siding is beaded edge weather boards; belongs to oldest volunteer fire company in continuous existence in the United States, which can be proven by company minutes of the Britannia Fire Company dated July 11, 1752.
