Located outside of the Old Red Courthouse is the Phillip Johnson designed memorial to John F Kennedy. The large cement structure was designed as a "cenotaph" or open tomb. It is a square roofless room, 30 feet high and 50 by 50 feet wide. On two of the sides are narrow openings. The structure itself is build of 72 cement columns that appear to float above the ground.

In the center of the structure is a low black granite square with John Fitzgerald Kennedy inscribed in gold two of the sides.

Set in the concrete on the incline that leads up to the memorial, are two plaques that talk about the people of Dallas and the emotions that they felt.
