Originally erected in 1923, this monument was demolished by the Nazi occupying forces on October, 21 - 1940.
Luxembourgers hid the remains from the Germans and the monument was rebuilt partly in 1958 and finally re-erected in its original form in 1985.
On Wednesday, March, 3 - 2010, the statue of the golden lady was taken down from its obelisk for restoration.
Afterwards, the statue traveled to the Shanghai World Expo 2010 in China (duration May, 1 to October, 31 - 2010) and enriched the Luxembourg Pavilion before returning home at the end of the year 2010.
