This tree is one of only a very few trees that survived a massive Danube flood that ripped out most of the trees on the island and shredded the few remaining with ice.
The Margitsziget (Margaret Island) is a is 2.5 km long, 500 m wide island in the middle of Danube in the hearth of Budapest, Hungary. In contrast to similar islands in other great cities, this one has not been built over, but has remained a huge park with century-old trees, quiet walks, a flower-garden, romantic ruins, swimming pools, a water tower, a little Zoo, some restaurants and bars, etc.
Entry by cars has been limited. Only a single bus line and taxis, alongside the service traffic of local stores and restaurants are allowed to enter. If you get here by car you should park the car on the northern end of the island, near the Árpád Bridge.
