This is the main branch of the Escondido Public Library, located in downtown on the corner of Kalmia and 3rd Avenue.

This main library is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 10 to 9 and Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10-6. There are four Internet-connected computers available for free use on a first-come, first-served basis. Simply pull a number, and when a station becomes available, log-in for a 15-minute use. Ample electronic card catalogs are available, also. This building had its groundbreaking in November of 1980 in order to expand from the too-small Pioneer Room immediately south of the current facility. The Main Branch opened in 1981 with the dedication on the date given below.
The library has an extensive collection of movies and music available for checkout as well as Our Shop, a resale shop located on the bottom floor of the library. Run by the Friends of the Escondido Public Library, whose Board meets monthly in the Board Room, sales of used books, magazines, records, and cassettes benefit the EPL. (Our Shop can be reached at 760-741-4832).
Other library services in this 40,000 square-foot facility include an upstairs Children’s Room, featuring the collection for aspiring, beginning, and adolescent readers, various age-appropriate story times, and the Wednesday Morning Movie (every other Wed. at 10 in the Turrentine Room).
