Located inside the larger Cooper River Park, this smaller, but vastly more important park, contains several memorials, mostly war and military related, within a section of several hundred square feet.

There is an extensive walking path which will take you around this entire park, to both banks of the river and back again. This section is a municipal park inside the county park. It is a separate entity and one that is visited frequently by the community, l especially by our veterans and their families.
The park was created in the late 80s to mostly honor our heroes, veterans, police officers and civil rights activists. There is a water fountain, several benches and a beautiful gazebo overlooking the river. There is also a softball field in the park as well. Although Cooper River Park is maintained by our County's Parks Department, Memorial Grove is maintained and operated by the local municipality and Veterans Affairs Groups. The County of course helps out as well with funds and man power, but, they are not the only group responsible for this piece of separated real-estate.
When I was a boy in the mid 70s, there was an annual race called the Cooper River Marathon which was run in this section of the park. There was nothing here back then.
