During the summer months, the lighthouse served as the village post office. Visitors could send postcards and letters, and a special lighthouse shaped cancellation mark was used. The post office was at the bottom of the lighthouse.
However, the lighthouse was damaged following a storm. Water damage occurred and mold set in. Canada Post deemed the Post Office unfit for workers and moved the operation to the nearby Sou'wester restaurant/gift shop while a solution was sought with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, who own the lighthouse. With no solution in the offing, Canada Post closed the postal outlet altogether.
