The statue of George Washington standing in front of Independence Hall is located on the South side of the building on Chestnut between 5th and 6th Streets. The statue was designed by Joseph Alexis Bailly and installed in 1869.

Independence Hall was built in 1753 and was the place where the Declaration of Independence was signed. The clock tower's steeple was the original home of the Liberty Bell.
