This short but steep hike will take you to Pyramide Lake, a small, deep glacier fed lake in the North Cascades that is also home to a carnivorous plant, rare in Washington state. It is also home to the rough skinned newt, a rare newt that has toxic skin (must be ingested to kill.)

The trail is steep, especially for the first 1/2 mile and is 2.1 miles long (1500 foot elev. gain). The lake is located in a box canyon, with only a tiny bit of shoreline accessible so come early to avoid other hikers and take in the serenity of the place. From the lake you'll get a great view of Pyramid Peak.

The trail is within the Ross Lake National Recreation area so dogs are allowed on leash. Remember that any trails (other than the Pacific Crest Trail) within the neighboring North Cascades National Park do not allow dogs on the trails.

While hiking in be sure to watch close for a wide assortment of shade loving wildflowers, lichens, mosses, fungi and even bright orange slime molds.

Open the photo gallery to see all of the photos of the scenery and various wildflowers and the carnivorous plants "drosera anglica".

Coordinates above are for the trailhead which is on the side of highway 20 (park in the pullout across the street) and the "picture location 1" coordinates are for the lake itself.
