A tribute to those having earned
the title of Unite States Marine
on the grounds of Parris Island and
who proved their mettle in the
battlefields of Vietnam.
SEMPER FIDELIS
Dedicated on this date, June 30, 2006, by the members of Platoon 2027, who marched upon these grounds from June 30 to August 23, 1966, as recruits of the Second Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot. It was with the fighting spirit instilled here and by the grace of God that no member of this Platoon died in the battlefields of Vietnam. Luck was certainly on the side of these 81 Marines as they served God and country during the Vietnam era. By 1969, most of the Platoon had seen combat, garnishing two Silver Stars, many Purple Hearts along with a Navy Achievement Medal with Valor.
Upon returning to Parris Island to celebrate our fortieth anniversary we stand together to listen to the distant cadence.

The Symbols
This memorial has a number of symbols that represent and honor the United States Marine Corps and the men that have earned "The Title of United States Marines." The memorial was originally designed to pay tribute to the Marines of Platoon 2027. Yet, it was then realized that you cannot honor one Marine without honoring all. Therefore, the "Fellowship of Valor" quotation was chosen to bring forth the everlasting connection among all Marines.
* The base of the memorial is triangular to denote the "V" in Vietnam.
* The rising pillars represent a Marine sentry on duty.
* The Marine's faith to "Fight Our Country's Battles, on the air, land and sea" is represented by each corner of the rising pillar.
* The 15 degree slant on top of the pillar represents the bowing of our heads in prayer for the sake of all Marines.
* The tallest peak of the structure rising toward the sky represents the Marine's ultimate belief to serve God and Country.
Information needed to visit markers and monuments on Depot:
Marine Corps Museum is open daily 10:00 to 4:30, closed New Year's, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. All visitors are subject to military regulations while on the Depot and access is dependent upon prevailing security measures.
